Dr. Lillian Bonner Smith is a licensed doctorate-level counselor (ALC, DPC) and a dedicated
advocate for inclusive mental health care. Originally from Canton, Mississippi, she relocated to
Huntsville, Alabama to pursue advanced studies in counseling and rehabilitation. With over nine
years of professional experience, Dr. Smith has built a career centered on serving individuals
with multiple disabilities, including those who are Deaf, hard of hearing, blind, low vision,
DeafBlind, and neurodivergent.
She holds a Bachelor of Science in Speech and Communicative Disorders from Jackson State
University, a Master of Science in Counseling Psychology with a concentration in Rehabilitation
Counseling from Alabama A&M University, and a Doctorate in Professional Counseling from
Mississippi College. Her doctoral dissertation, "Adapting Teacher-Child Interaction Therapy
with Deaf Children Grades K–2 with ADHD," reflects her longstanding commitment to bridging
clinical research with real-world impact.
Dr. Smith specializes in working with adults and seniors from the neurodivergent, Deaf/Hard of
Hearing, and Blind/Low Vision communities. Beyond direct service, she is a sought-after
consultant and trainer for agencies seeking to improve their capacity to support individuals with
complex disabilities.
As a licensed doctorate-level counselor, Dr. Smith’s professional mission is to foster accessible
and inclusive environments across mental health and public service systems. She believes in
empowering every individual to be seen as “more than enough,” regardless of ability.
